A Note From The Superintendent’s Desk

With COVID 19 weighing heavily on everyone’s mind, now we have to think about what is best for our children regarding school.

Registration packets were put in the mail last week and the Mt. Olive School District is offering parents a choice of what type of education they would like for the beginning of this school year: Face to Face Instruction or Remote Learning.

The “Return To Learn Procedures”, that can be viewed on the district website, outlines the rules that will be followed for the upcoming school year.

My biggest fear is that parents and students will choose the Remote Learning Option and not be aware of what is expected of the students. Students in Remote Learning will be expected to be online the same time that students are in face to face instruction. Classes begin at 8:05 a.m.! Attendance will be taken, if a student is not online they are considered absent, and a parent will be notified that their child is not attending school. Grades will also be part of the Remote Learning Option, this was not the case this past Spring.

I envision students thinking they can sleep in until noon and not put forth much effort and still do fine in Remote Learning. This will lead to failure. I do not want to see students fail.

I hope that students that choose the Remote Learning Option are successful, and attend school on a regular basis. The district will monitor student’s academic progress and if a student is struggling, we will give the parents and students one opportunity to switch the type of instruction they are receiving.

Please feel free to reach out to any school administrator if you have any questions.
