The Mt. Olive Community Unit School District #5 Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Joshua Martin as Assistant Superintendent/HS Principal beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, with Stephanie Cann continuing as the Interim Superintendent. As part of a long-term leadership transition plan approved by the Board of Education, Mr. Martin will transition into the role of District Superintendent with a contract through the 2029-2030 school year.
Mr. Martin brings extensive district knowledge and a deep commitment to CUSD #5. He has dedicated the past 17 years to serving the district in multiple leadership roles, including teacher, coach, student services coordinator, and high school principal. His experience in educational leadership, systems management, student achievement, and community engagement has helped shape a strong foundation for continued district success.
During the 2026–2027 school year, Mr. Martin will work closely with district leadership, staff, students, Interim-Superintendent Stephanie Cann, and the Board of Education to ensure a smooth and collaborative transition.
“The Board is excited to welcome Mr. Martin into this leadership role and confident in the vision and experience he brings to our district,” said David Brunnworth, President of the Mt. Olive CUSD #5 Board of Education. “This transition plan provides continuity, stability, and thoughtful preparation as we continue building on the strengths of our schools and community”, said district Interim-Superintendent Stephanie Cann.
As Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Martin will support district operations, curriculum initiatives, staff development, and strategic planning while continuing to strengthen relationships across the district and community. Upon assuming the role of Superintendent in 2027, he will lead the district through the 2030 school year.
“I am honored and humbled by the trust the Board of Education has placed in me,” said Mr. Martin. “I look forward to continuing to work alongside our students, staff, families, and community members as we provide outstanding educational opportunities and foster a positive environment where every learner can reach their greatest potential.”
The Board of Education believes this planned transition will provide consistency in leadership and support the district’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, student success, and strong community partnerships.
